Boston, Massachusettes

Sometime in the early morning, the ship's foghorn started to blast. When we pulled into Boston Harbour, the fog was still there, although it had lifted a bit and we could see some of the thhings where we were docked. It was through a fairly narrow part, and then between some piers in a narrow area. We had lots of time because our tour didn't leave until just after 12:30.

The tour was to Fenway Park with a bit of narrated travel through Boston. In about an hour, we arrived at Fenway Park and got off our bus for the tour. The tour was scheduled for an hour, with some time to shop at the team store.

Original Seat

It is a very old stadium, and our tour was like a history lesson of its construction. We were taken through 5 different times of its growth. The first place was the original area. The seats were old, wooden, and very uncomfortable. Then to the next phase which was a bit newer, and added a number of seats that were metal.

Next we went to the Green Monster seats, which were also metal and very difficult to get to. They apparently are seats that are in great demand, not very expensive to purchase when they opened them up, but quite expensive after they found out how popular they would be.

Press Booth

From there, we went up higher, and got to go into the Press Box. We walked through the area where the reporters write their stories. There was a press conference scheduled for about 10 minutes after we were there, so we didn't stay long. On our way out, we walked by where the broadcasts are from.

From there, we went out to the seats in right field. These have been marketed to make them popular, and are the most expensive seats. They are right in front of the Budweiser Beer stand. Lots of folks buy these, so the marketing works.

From there, it was down to a floor which must have been a restaurant area. There were bathrooms here for us to use. Then it was down the stairs and out to the street.

The bus was going to pick us up where we were dropped off, so we had to walk around to the first base side of the stadium. The team store is across the street, and we wanted a chance to go in there. Things are very expensive, but of course, we purchased a few souvenirs.

TD Gardens

Then, back on the bus for the trip back to the ship. The driver decided to give us an extended tour of Boston, so we went through a few areas while he talked up the history of the areas. We did go by the TD Gardens, home of the Bruins, but didn't see and of the players.

Then we had to get back to the ship, but we were stuck in traffic. There were some concerns about getting back to the ship on time. Our dinner time was 5:30, and we got back at 5:00. Just before we went down to the restaurant, the ship began to pull away, so we made it, but only by a bit.

Off to Portland, Maine in the morning, with an early trip, so we have to go to bed now.
