Day 13 - At Sea

Pig Made of Towels

Last night when we got back to our room, Jason, our Steward, had made another animal out of towels.  This time it was a pig, lying there looking at us when we walked in the room.  It made us laugh our loud when we saw it.  He is a pretty talented guy, along with being a very good steward. 

A pretty lazy day, today.  We woke up when we were ready (about 7:30) this morning, and because we weren't landing anywhere, started our day with some time on our balcony.  The weather was good, the waters were pretty calm, and the temperature was good.  We were travelling Northwest, which meant the sun was not shining on our deck, so it was very pleasant out there.  When the sun did begin to get on our chairs, we decided to go up for breakfast.

A leisurely breakfast was in order.  We have certainly limited the amount that we take, and things have settled into common items from the buffet.  I guess we have learned to control ourselves when it comes to food.

After breakfast, we returned to our room to read (Dawn to knit).  Dawn and Karen were going to play bingo at 11:15, so we were pretty much lazing around until that time.  I was really enjoying the book I was reading, and when the ladies went off to Bingo ($2000 jackpot), I was more than happy to sit out on the deck and continue reading.

Dawn got back about 12:40, and we planned to go to a movie in the Princess Theatre at 1:00, so we were off, shortly after she got back to the room.  The movie was a strange little show called "Ruby Snaps", but it was thought provoking.  I guess you could call it a love story, but it did have some good moments and laughs.

After the movie, we went up to the buffet to get some coffee/iced tea, some cookies, and some ice cream.  Dawn ate her ice cream, and then we took the rest back to our room so we could sit out on the deck and read some more.  From our deck, we could see the island of Haiti off in the distance.  We were heading northwest at that time, but soon change to northeast as we passed the northern tip of Jamaica and headed toward the Windward Passage between Haiti and Cuba.

We went for supper at 5:40, and while we were eating, Lloyd pointed out that we could see Cuba at that time, and that we were near Guantonamo, the US Military installation on the south tip of Cuba.  I guess we will soon be to the east of Cuba and make the turn north again as we head to the Princess Cays.

We had an enjoyable dinner, and again, ate a lot less than we did when we first got on the ship.  Tonight was Beef Wellington, so it was quite good.  There was a new singer in the Theatre tonight, so we went to the 7:00 show.  He was a great entertainer, put on a lively show, and we had a great time.  The movie under the stars was "Taken Two", which we wanted to see, so as soon as the show in the Theatre was over, we hustled up to deck 14 to watch the show "under the stars".  There was a problem with the sound (too much bass, and not synchronized with the lips), but we watched it anyhow.  We didn't feel it was as good as the first "Taken", but it was an easy watch.

From there, we went back to our room to finish off our evening.  Tomorrow, we arrive in Princess Cays about 9:00 am, and we are taking a tour, so have to gather in one of the restaurants by 9:20, so the alarms have to be set again tonight.  The alarm will not likely be necessary, but it is better to err on the side of caution, than it is to miss the tour.
